Medor and Angelica – (Sebastiano Ricci) Previous Next

Artist:

Size: 110 x 87 cm

Technique: Oil On Canvas

The composition is freely and dynamically executed, in an arrangement resembling a theatrical set, with the rich palette (cerulean, golden yellow, ivory and various shades of green) illustrating Ricci’s stated pictorial ideal: clear beauty and luminous colour. The tanned, athletic body of young Medor and the graceful, white shape of Angelica are skillfully associated with the two tree trunks, dominating central stage, seemingly emerging from the same roots: the powerful oak, covered with brown bark and a lithe birch tree, alight with golden and silver reflexes. ©Dana Roxana Hrib, European Art Gallery Guidebook, Second edition, Sibiu 2011.
