The first European glass beads were produced in Bohemia, a territory in central Europe, during the sixteenth century. Joined later by Austria and Italy, Bohemia manufactured beads of the highest quality and German beadwork from this period typically uses seed beads produced there. These were slightly larger than the tiny seed beads used in French sablé work.
