Museum: The Ethnographic Museum in Kraków (Kraków, Poland)

Technique: Cloth

A green semi-silk ribbon belonging to a resident of the village of Wyciąże (now part of Kraków). Used in the interwar period. Decorated with an ornament composed of alternating floral motifs in different colours. There are three rows of sequins with small beads at the ends of the ribbon. Ribbons with characteristic floral patterns, popularly known as “Kraków ribbons”, were used by girls and young married women to decorate their clothes. One or more ribbons tied in a bow were attached at the back to the beads, with the ends sometimes reaching all the way to the waist. Ribbons were also used to decorate the wedding wreaths worn by the bride and bridesmaids.
