Vitalino Pereira dos Santos had six children: Amaro, Manuel, Maria, Antônio, Severino, and Maria José. The first three continued the art, acting as potters. Out of the siblings, Manuel is the one whose pieces look the most like those of their father. Antônio, in his turn, even made faithful copies of his father’s work, but he died young. It is not always possible to precisely identify the authorship of the pieces made by the offspring. There are three types of ceramics: simple utilitarian, figurative utilitarian, and decorative. The work is almost entirely made manually, and lathe is used mostly for utilitarian pieces. The art of making vases, sculptures, and other objects became one of the strongest expressions of the culture in the Northeast region.
