Aubrey’s Play series, in which she arranges and paints tableaux of plastic dollhouse furniture, similarly repeats generic images. These serializations, like Wayne Thiebaud’s paintings of candy, ice cream cones, and people at leisure, explore a lifestyle that can be empty and plastic, while Aubrey’s bright beguiling colors highlight the appeal of these privileged lives. The way that the 2 chairs are angled toward the TV depicts an impossibly realistic screen, the idea about the loss of distention between the Truman show, reality tv, and those who star in and consume the media is suggested by the isolated environment and unpracticticality of the living room furniture.
