Abraham Van Blijenberch, a Flemish painter from Belgium, was born in 1575 and passed away in 1624. He is known for his remarkable portraits and designs, which were highly acclaimed during his time. Abraham Van Blijenberch was married in 1615 and became a citizen of Antwerp in 1617, although there is no record of him joining the Guild of Saint Luke, the Antwerp guild of painters.

Early Career and Influences

worked in London from 1617 to 1622, where he painted portraits of prominent members of the court of James I, including Prince Charles, later Charles I of England, and William Drummond of Hawthornden. His work was influenced by Daniel Mijtens, a renowned painter of that time. During his stay in London, Abraham Van Blijenberch also produced designs for the Mortlake Tapestry Works.

Notable Works and Legacy

Some of Abraham Van Blijenberch's notable works include portraits of Lord Chamberlain William Herbert, 3rd Earl of Pembroke, Sir Robert Kerr, and Ben Jonson. His designs for the Mortlake Tapestry Works are also highly acclaimed. After returning to Antwerp in 1621 or 1622, Theodoor van Thulden became a student of Abraham Van Blijenberch.
