Biography:
Adriaen Collaert was a Flemish designer and engraver. He was born around 1560 in Anvers, Belgium. Adriaen Collaert is known for his work as an illustrator, draftsman, printmaker, and publisher during the Renaissance period. His father, Hans Collaert, was also a renowned engraver who likely trained him. In 1586, he married Justa Galle, daughter of the famous engraver and publisher Philippe Galle. Adriaen Collaert's career spanned from around 1580 to his death in 1618. He became a master of the Saint-Luc guild in Antwerp in 1580 and worked for various publishers, including Plantin - Moretus. Throughout his life, he produced numerous engravings based on his own designs as well as those by other artists such as Maarten de Vos.
