Biography:

The Volkstedt porcelain manufactory, also known as Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur, was established in Rudolstadt, Germany in 1760. It was the first porcelain manufactory in Thuringia and gained a reputation for its finely painted and carefully modeled porcelain figures. The manufactory was integrated into the VEB Vereinigte Zierporzellanwerke Lichte and formed part of the Kombinat Feinkeramik Kahla. The factory had its origins in an official request made by Georg Heinrich Macheleid, a porcelain maker who had gained the arcana of porcelain-making by his own researches. The manufactory was originally intended to be sited in Sitzendorf, but was later moved to Volkstedt under the personal direction of Johann Friederich, Fürst von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. The manufactory is still in operation today and is known for its high-quality porcelain products.
