Biography:

Alexander James Strachan (1774-1850) was a British goldsmith and silversmith, known for his high-quality work and intricate designs. He was born in Strachan, Aberdeenshire, Scotland and began his apprenticeship in Edinburgh. He later moved to London and established his own workshop, where he produced a wide range of items, including snuffboxes, watches, and jewelry. He was appointed as the principal supplier of gold and silver boxes to the Royal Goldsmiths Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, and was known for his attention to detail and use of high-quality materials. He died in London in 1850.
