Biography:
Amber Hammad is a Pakistani born, Sydney based visual artist, academic and researcher. She was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1980. She is currently a Post-Graduate Master of Fine Arts student and recipient of the 2022 Sulman Prize. Hammad's work explores the complexities of being a middle-class, middle-aged Muslim woman, and challenges the prurient male gaze in art. She is also known for her practice-led research MFA, 'Unveiling The Veil: Self-Representation in Contemporary', which positions itself in the field of veiling and unveiling Muslim woman’s bodies. Hammad is also a writer and has contributed to Art Fervour and LaRivistaCulturale.com. She is also known for her work in the TV series 'Siyaah'.
