Biography:

Ang Tsherin Sherpa is a contemporary Nepalese artist known for his unique blend of traditional Tibetan thangka painting techniques and modern artistic expression. Born in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1968, he was trained in thangka painting by his father, Master Urgen Dorje, who had a career spanning more than 55 years. Tsherin Sherpa's work explores themes of identity, spirituality, and the human condition through intricate compositions that often incorporate elements from both Tibetan Buddhist iconography and contemporary Western art styles. In addition to his thangka paintings, Tsherin Sherpa has also created sculptures, installations, and mixed-media works. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, and the Venice Biennale. In 2018, Tsherin Sherpa was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for his contributions to contemporary art. He currently lives and works between Kathmandu and Northern California.
