Biography:

Aenne Biermann, also known as Anna Sibilla Sternfeld, was a German photographer born on March 8, 1898, in Goch, Germany. She was one of the major proponents of New Objectivity, an important art movement in the Weimar Republic. Biermann was born into a wealthy Ashkenazi family and married Herbert Joseph Biermann in 1920. The couple had two children. She was a self-taught photographer, with her first subjects being her own children. Biermann's work gained international recognition in the late 1920s and was part of every major exhibition of German photography. She passed away in Gera, Germany, in 1933 due to a liver disease.
