Biography:
Anton Schranz was born in 1769. His coming to Malta is conjectured in two stages, each with a hypothesis: He specialized in painting landscapes and seascapes, as well as portraits of important figures such as King George III and Menorca’s newly appointed governor. Schranz was much more than a maritime artist, though the genre dominated his later work. His opus includes portrait commissions (King George III and Menorca’s newly appointed governor). Anton Schranz died in 1839.
