Biography:
Anthonie Leemans, also known as Antonius Leemans, was a Dutch Golden Age painter born on 1631-02-16 in The Hague and deceased on 1671/1673-11-14 in Amsterdam. He was known for his still life paintings of hunting paraphernalia and vanitas pieces, which became an influence on Christoffel Pierson for their popularity. Leemans also painted a few Italianate landscapes. According to Houbraken, he made a profitable living from trompe l'oeil paintings of hunting paraphernalia, birdcages, and weaponry.
