Audrey Capuano, also known as Audrey Westley, was born in Strathalbyn, South Australia in 1924. She is known for her hand-knitted wool jumper of the American 'Stars and Stripes' flag, which she made while waiting for a place on a bride ship to reunite with her American husband after World War II. She began knitting the jumper in 1945 and wore it on leaving Australia in April 1946 and on greeting America. From San Francisco, she travelled by train to Pittsburgh where she was reunited with her husband. She still lives in Pittsbu....
