Biography:
Bartolomeo Cavaceppi was an Italian sculptor and restorer who worked in Rome. He trained in the studio of Pierre-Étienne Monnot and then in the workshop of Carlo Antonio Napolioni, a restorer of sculptures for Cardinal Alessandro Albani. Much of his work involved restoring antique Roman sculptures, making casts, copies, and fakes of antiques. He was a close friend of Johann Joachim Winckelmann and influenced by his evolving taste. Cavaceppi's work included the publication 'Raccolta d'antiche statue, busti, teste cognite ed altre sculture antiche restaurate da Cav.' in three volumes from 1768 to 1772.
