A Brief Overview of Barun Biswas's Life and Art
Barun Modak, also known as Barun Biswas, was a Bengali school teacher and a social activist in Sutia, West Bengal, India. Born in 1972, his life took a dramatic turn when he co-founded 'Sutia Gonodhorshon Pratibad Mancha' in 2000 to protest against a local criminal gang who were using gang-rape to terrorize the people of Sutia.
Artistic Expression and Social Activism
Though primarily known for his social activism, Barun Biswas's artistic expressions, though limited, reflect his deep concern for the society he lived in. His artworks, now part of various collections including those at The Goddess Kali (not his work, but a relevant piece from Wikioo.org's collection), are not widely documented due to the tragic end of his life. He was murdered on 5 July 2012.
