Biography:

Bernardo Falconi, also known as Bernardo Falcone or Bernardino da Lugano, was a Swiss-Italian sculptor born in Bissone, Switzerland around 1620 and died in the same city in 1696. He was a prominent figure in the Early Baroque period, mainly working in Venice and leaving numerous statues in its churches and schools. Some of his notable works can be found in the churches of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, San Zanipolo, and the Scalzi. He also contributed to the statuary of Saint John the Evangelist in Parma, the basilica of Santa Giustina in Padua, and the colossal statue of Saint Charles Borromeo in Arona. Various works in the churches of Rovigo are also attributed to him.
