Biography:

Burton Silverman is an American artist, born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1928. He is considered one of America's most accomplished and important realist painters and illustrators. Silverman's draftsmanship, brushwork, composition, use of color, and tonality owe a debt to and have continued the traditions and standards established by the great representationalist artists throughout history. He has been painting and exhibiting as a fine artist for over 60 years, with 36 solo shows across the country. He is most often celebrated for his portraits of people, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Silverman was elected to the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 2001. His work has been featured in Time magazine, Sports Illustrated, and Esquire, and his watercolor painting was used for the cover of Jethro Tull's 1971 album, Aqualung. Silverman has been an exhibiting fine artist for nearly 70 years, and has been the subject of interviews and articles in various publications. He continues to paint and exhibit his work.
