Biography:
Cyprian Mpho Shilakoe was a prominent anti-apartheid activist and artist, born in 1946 in South Africa. He was raised on a rural mission station and started his artistic journey there. Shilakoe was known for using his art to express political ideas and fight against the unjust apartheid regime. He was one of the first group artists who preferred working in linocut and concentrated on producing etchings that were often combined with aquatint. Shilakoe's contribution to South African art is legendary, and his sculptures, prints, and paintings are highly prized by collectors. He passed away in 1972 at the young age of 26.
