David Choe is an American artist, musician, actor, and former journalist and podcast host from Los Angeles. Choe's work appears in a wide variety of urban culture and entertainment contexts. He has illustrated and written for magazines including Hustler, Ray Gun and Vice. He has an ongoing relationship with the Asian pop culture website, store, and former magazine Giant Robot. His figurative paintings, which explore themes of desire, degradation, and exaltation, are characterized by a raw, frenetic method that he has termed 'dirty style.' He is best known for his mural work and his street art, but has also worked in other mediums such as painting, drawing, and sculpture. Choe's art is often controversial and provocative, and has been the subject of both praise and criticism. He has been the subject of a documentary film, 'Dirty Hands: The Art and Crimes of David Choe' (2008), and has appeared in several television shows and films. He is also a musician and has released several albums and EPs.
