Dean Bowen's idiosyncratic paintings, prints and sculptures combine technical mastery with a fundamental directness and simplicity. His artwork combines the use of humour and gentle irony with a deep understanding of the human condition. Born in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia in 1957, Dean Bowen studied at RMIT and later at Monash University, where he earned his Ph.D. He has been working as a full-time artist since 1994 and has exhibited his work extensively throughout Australia and internationally. His multidisciplinary practice spans paintings, sculpture, and printmaking, and he is particularly known for his use of birds as a motif in his work. Dean Bowen's art often explores themes of urban and country life, comets and night skies, animals, and the human figure, all presented through a prism of humour and optimism.
