Biography:

Asad Zaidi is an Indian poet, editor, translator, publisher, and literary critic. He has been a noted Hindi poet since the early 1980s. He was born in Karauli, Rajasthan, India in 1954. He first came to Delhi in 1974, where he has lived mostly ever since. He attended the Jawaharlal Nehru University from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. He is married to the historian Nalini Taneja. His first collection of poems Behne aur Anya Kavitaein (1980) established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary Hindi poetry. In 1981, he was awarded the Sanskriti Award in recognition of his contributions to Hindi literature. His poetic anthology Saman ki talash (2008) received much critical acclaim. He is currently a researcher of empire, war and the struggles for modern world order, and is writing on decolonization and political theory, as well as on Pakistani encounters in the world order.
