Biography:
Internationally renowned for historical monuments and classic works of art, Avard Tennyson Fairbanks was one of America's finest sculptors of the 20th century. He created over 100 public sculptures during his career. Born on March 2, 1897, in Provo, Utah, to a family of artists, Fairbanks studied at the Ecole Nationale Des Beaux Arts in Paris and later taught at Brigham Young University. He is best known for his bronze sculpture 'Marcus Whitman' which is part of the National Statuary Hall Collection in Washington D.C. Fairbanks also created the 'Restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood' sculpture, installed in Salt Lake City's Temple Square. Throughout his life, he continued to create and teach, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of art.
