Biography:
Edgardo Rossaro was born in Vercelli in 1882. He was trained in art by his father Ferdinando who was a teacher at the Istituto di Belle Arti in Vercelli. He later studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Turin and at the Académie Julian in Paris. Rossaro was known for his vigorous draftsmanship and was highly regarded as a portrait and landscape painter, particularly of mountainous scenes. He was also a writer and published several books, including an autobiographical account of his experiences as an alpine soldier during World War I. Rossaro spent much of his later life in Rapallo, where he died in 1972.
