Biography:
Edward Samuel Dodge (1816–1857) was an American artist known for his miniature portraits. He was the younger brother of the well-known artist, John Wood Dodge (1807-1893). Born in New York, he studied painting in Paris and later returned to the United States to establish a successful career as a miniature painter. He was a member of the National Academy of Design and exhibited his work at the American Art-Union and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His works are held in numerous museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art.
