Edwin Smith was a British photographer, known for his architectural and landscape photography. He was born in Hampstead, London, England in 1912 and died in 1971. He is considered one of the greatest British photographers left in obscurity. He is best known for his work on the architecture of John Nash, a prominent British architect of the Georgian and Regency eras. Nash is best known as the Regent’s architect; he introduced into London practices of town design which integrated streets, buildings and parks, which is why Regent's Park and Regent Street are considered one of his masterpieces. Smith's photograph of Park Crescent, Regent's Park, London, taken in 1955, is a testament to his skill and dedication to capturing the beauty of Nash's architecture.
