Ekundayo (Dayo) was born in Honolulu, Hi, in 1983 where he lived with his mother and father until the age of five when his mother and father could no longer get along. He then moved to Nigeria with his mother and lived there until the age of 12. Ekundayo's mother then sent him back to the United States to live with his father in Los Angeles. Ekundayo's father was a painter and his mother was a fashion designer, so he was exposed to art at a young age. Ekundayo's father encouraged him to draw and paint, and he quickly developed a love for art. Ekundayo's father also introduced him to the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Andy Warhol, which had a profound impact on him. Ekundayo's work is a reflection of his life experiences and his struggle to find his identity as an African in America. His work is a mix of surrealism, abstract expressionism, and graffiti.
