Eligiusz Maleszewski, also known as Eli, was a Polish artist born in Warsaw, Poland in 1834. He was a photographer, heliominiaturist, and painter. Maleszewski was a pioneer of artistic photography in Warsaw and was known for his portrait photography, often executed in the heliominiature technique on plates of ivory or porcelain. He participated in numerous national and international photographic exhibitions and won several awards for his work. Maleszewski's portraits, particularly those created in the heliominiature technique, were highly regarded and received recognition at international exhibitions, including a gold medal at the World's Fair in Paris in 1878. He died in 1893.
