Biography:

Emil Venkov was a Slovak sculptor and artist born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1937. He died in Pezinok, Slovakia in 2017. Venkov is best known for creating the statue of Vladimir Lenin that presides over the Seattle neighborhood of Fremont. The statue was initially put on display in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in 1988, but after the revolutions of 1989 and dissolution of the Soviet Union, it was bought by an American and brought to Washington State. The statue has been on temporary display in Fremont since 1995 and has become a local landmark. Venkov's other works include the statue 'Man with Lamb'.
