Emmerico Hartwich Nunes was a Portuguese painter, illustrator, and caricaturist born in Lisbon on January 6, 1888. He passed away in Sines on January 18, 1968. Nunes is recognized as part of the first generation of modernist artists in Portugal. His mother was of German and Italian descent, which may have influenced his artistic style. Nunes was a pioneer of the bande desenhada (comic strip) in Portugal, with his passion for drawing evident from a young age. He is known for his humorous illustrations and caricatures, and his work can be found in various museums and galleries, including the Centro de Arte Moderna in Lisbon.
