Biography:

Enrique Leal is a visual artist and Associate Professor of Print Media at the Art Department of the University of California in Santa Cruz. He was born in Recife, Brazil in 1962. Leal has worked as a printmaker in the U.S.A. and Spain before receiving his B.F.A. from the Polytechnique University of Valencia. He then went on to receive his M.F.A. and Ph.D. in Fine Arts from the University of Castilla La Mancha (UCLM). Leal's much-admired body of work focuses on observance, along with trying to work with things that are unobserved and have to do with natural phenomena. He is currently the Director of Graduate Studies and a Professor of Art at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
