Since the early 1980s, Eugene Carchesio has built a solid reputation producing small-scale drawings and sculptures. He works on an intimate scale, with diverse materials including matchboxes, cardboard, graph paper, watercolour, and sound. Carchesio's quietly focused, intimate works stand in contrast to increasingly glossy, inflated modes of contemporary art and provide us with moments of welcome reprieve amid the chaos of modern life. His considered placement of interlocking shapes alludes to the science of mathematics and highlights his interest in the purity of shapes and geometry.
