Biography:
Johann Eusebius Alphen was an Austrian artist born in 1741. He was a miniaturist who created portraits of women, including two works acquired by the Nationalmuseum in 1767. Alphen's technique involved using loose brushwork and combining refined line and dot techniques with fluid brushstrokes to depict clothing and accessories. He studied under Jean-Baptiste Massé in Paris and faced competition from Cornelius Høyer. Alphen died in 1772 at the age of 31.
