Ferdinand Kobell was a German painter and copper engraver born on June 7, 1740, in Mannheim. He studied law at the University of Heidelberg but soon turned his attention to painting. Kobell became a court painter for the Elector Palatine, Charles Theodore, and produced significant works that included both paintings and prints. His work was influential in the development of landscape art in Germany, blending naturalistic detail with decorative elegance characteristic of the Rococo style.
