Early Life and Education

Feyhaman Duran

, a renowned Turkish artist, was born in Istanbul in 1886. After completing his secondary education at Galatasaray High School, he was sent to Paris by Halim Paşa to pursue his passion for painting. In the City of Light, Duran became a student of Jean-Paul and Paul Albert Laurens at the esteemed Académie Julian. He furthered his artistic education at the Académie des Beaux-Arts under the guidance of Fernand Cormon.

Artistic Career and Notable Works

Upon returning to Turkey in 1914, Duran's work gained recognition, and some of his portraits were showcased at the Galatasaray Exhibition in 1916. His portrait of Dr. Akil Muhtar won the silver medal, cementing his reputation as a skilled artist. In 1919, he was appointed teacher of drawing at the School of Fine Arts and became a founding member of the Union of Fine Arts. Notable works by Duran include:

Legacy and Later Life

Duran joined the staff in the painting department at the School of Fine Arts in 1933, where he remained until his retirement in 1951. He passed away in 1970, leaving behind a legacy as one of Turkey's most celebrated artists.
