Biography:

Francis Hincks Granger was a local Niagara-on-the-Lake artist whose works show many buildings that no longer exist or are copies of works completed by other artists. He studied at the American Institute of Art in New York City from 1845-1847, where he exhibited pen and ink sketches and landscapes in watercolour. After moving to Niagara in 1854, he painted scenes of the area, including buildings that no longer exist. His livelihood came from an established trade that fulfilled a variety of decorative and practical requirements in the general commerce of the 19th Century. He worked with the Royal Lyceum Theatre as a scenic artist and was commissioned by former museum curator Janet Carnochan to complete pieces for display at the Museum in the early 1900s.
