George Gittoes is an Australian artist known for his work as a painter, filmmaker, and photographer. He was born on October 20, 1949, in Brighton-le-Sands, New South Wales, Australia. Gittoes grew up in nearby Rockdale, New South Wales. He studied at the University of Sydney and co-founded the Yellow House artist's cooperative during the early 1970s. Throughout his career, he has documented some of the world's most notorious conflicts through his art, including wars in Rwanda, Iraq, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Bosnia, and Afghanistan.
