Minnis & Cowell was a partnership of George W. Minnis and Daniel T. Cowell, two photographers based in Richmond, Virginia. They were active during the American Civil War and are best known for their portrait of General Robert E. Lee, which is the only image that shows him wearing a uniform frock coat buttoned to the chin. The firm was established in 1863 and was active until the end of the Civil War. They were known for their high-quality carte-de-visite portraits of Confederate generals and officials.
