Biography:

Gerardus Duyckinck I was born in New York City in 1695, the scion of a line of Dutch artisans. He was the grandson of Evert “the Glazier” Duyckinck, who emigrated from Holland to New Amsterdam in 1635 and became the first Duyckinck to settle in the New World. Gerardus Duyckinck I was a limner, painter, gilder, japanner, and dealer in looking-glasses and artists' colors. He was active in New York and known for his portraits and religious paintings. He died in New York City in 1746.
