Biography:

Gerhard Marx is a South African artist, born in 1976. He completed his master's degree in Fine Arts cum laude at the University of Cape Town in 2004. Marx has worked with well-known artists such as William Kentridge and the Handspring Puppet Company. He currently teaches at the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg. Marx is known for his theatre piece Tshepang, co-directed with Lara Foot-Newton, and his play Hear and Now. In 2006, Marx considered legal action against BMW for copyright infringement. Marx's works are primarily in the medium of woodblock print and he is known for his style of using abstract shapes and forms.
