Biography:
Rigino di Giovanni was an Italian sculptor and notary born in Verona in 1315/1320 and died in the XIV century. He was the son of the master lapicida Rigino di Enrico and was active in Verona during the Trecento. He held the position of chancellor for Cansignorio della Scala and his successor Antonio, lords of Verona. His works include the statue of the Virgin Mary on the sagrato of the church of San Pietro Incarnario in Verona, the statue of the Madonna col Bambino for the church of Santa Maria della Rotonda in Montorio di Verona, and the statue of San Procolo for the church of San Procolo in Verona, which is now kept in the basilica of San Zeno in Verona. He is also attributed to the equestrian statue of Cangrande della Scala and the tomb of Mastino II della Scala in the Arche scaligere complex in Verona.
