Giuseppe Bonati, also known as Giovannino del Pio, was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He was born in Ferrara in 1635 and died in Rome on March 12, 1681. Giuseppe Bonati, Giovannino Del Pio initially trained as a pupil of Francesco Costanzo Cattaneo and Leonello Bononi.
Under the patronage of cardinal Carlo Pio di Savoia, he was sent to Bologna to train with Guercino in 1658. In 1662, he traveled to Rome to work in the studio of Pier Francesco Mola. Bonatti attempted to establish a studio to rival Carlo Maratta.
's style is characterized by his use of chiaroscuro and his ability to capture the play of light and shadow. His works are known for their dramatic intensity and their sense of movement. Some of his notable works include Rinaldo and Armida and Sisera and Jael, both of which are housed in the Museo Capitolino in Rome.
