Biography:
Glafira Makaryevna Vasilevich was a Soviet linguist, ethnographer, and specialist in Tungus studies. She studied at the Petrovskaya Female Gymnasium in St. Petersburg and later worked at the Geographic Institute, Ethnographic Faculty. Vasilevich participated in 11 expeditions to study the language, folklore, social life, and Shamanism of the Evenks. She taught the Evenk language, issued manuals, educative programs, and linguistic essays. Vasilevich was a Candidate in Linguistic (1935) and Doctor in History (1969). She was arrested in 1952 but rehabilitated and restored to her former position at the Institute of Ethnography in 1955.
