Biography:

Gordon Matta-Clark was an American artist born in New York City on June 22, 1943. He is best known for his site-specific artworks created in the 1970s and his pioneering work in socially engaged food art. Matta-Clark studied architecture at Cornell University and later became involved in the art scene in New York City. He co-founded the artist-run restaurant FOOD in SoHo, Manhattan, which was an important gathering place for artists in the area. Matta-Clark's work often involved transforming and altering existing architectural structures, and he was known for his innovative use of materials and techniques. He died in New York City on August 27, 1978.
