Biography:

Gandhara Art, also known as Greco-Buddhist art, is the artistic manifestation of Greco-Buddhism, a cultural syncretism between Ancient Greek art and Buddhism. It evolved in the ancient region of Gandhara, located in the northwestern fringe of the Indian subcontinent, specifically in the Peshawar and Swat valleys of present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan. The style and forms of Gandhara Art are heavily influenced by Greco-Roman art, with strong idealistic realism and sensuous description, and it is believed to have produced the first representations of Gautama Buddha in human form. The art form reached its zenith from the 3rd-5th century CE, and had a considerable influence on the development of Buddhist art in the rest of India and as far as Japan.
