Biography:

Gustav Schauer was a German photographer and art publisher born in Berlin in 1826 and died in 1902. He was active in Berlin from 1851 to 1864. He was trained as a daguerreotypist by Philipp Graff in Berlin and opened his own studio and publishing house in Berlin, at 188, Grosse Friedrichstrasse. He is known for his photographs of artworks and his photographic reproductions of prints and frescoes. He also published books on photography and art. He is the author of the Portrait of Zofia Potocka.
