Harriet Calcott Scott was a prominent Australian painter, illustrator, lithographer, and natural history collector. Born in 1830 in Sydney, Australia, she was the first child of Harriet Calcott, a seamstress, and Alexander Walker Scott, a grazier.

Early Life and Career

Harriet Scott's interest in art and natural history began at an early age. She developed her skills as a painter and illustrator, and her work was soon recognized by the scientific community. In 1862, she became a founding member of the Entomological Society of New South Wales, and the following year, she was appointed as a councillor. Her dedication to the field led to her presidency in 1866 and from 1868 onwards.
