Hatem El Mekki, also known as Hatim Elmekki, was a Tunisian painter born in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1918. He died in Carthage, Tunisia, in 2003. El Mekki moved to Tunisia in 1924 and attended Le lycée Carnot de Tunis, where he mastered the Chinese aquarelle technique. He then traveled to Paris on a government scholarship. El Mekki is considered one of Tunisia's greatest painters due to his longevity, the diverse and abundant nature of his work, and the recognition he received both domestically and internationally. His style combines formal artistic training with Indonesian printing techniques, resulting in a unique artistic vision.
