Biography:
Helene Neumann was a German painter and graphic artist born on March 14, 1874, in Königsberg i. Pr., Germany. She was the great-granddaughter of Karl Gottfried Hagen, the founder of scientific pharmacy in Germany, and the granddaughter of physicist Franz Ernst Neumann. Her father was pathologist and hematologist Ernst Neumann, and her brother was mathematician Ernst Richard Neumann. Helene Neumann received private tutoring to foster her mathematical and artistic talents during her time at the higher school for girls in Königsberg. After completing her education, she trained as a graphic artist from 1897 to 1900 in Munich under Peter Halm, Ernst Neumann, Heinrich Wolff, and Louis Jacobi from Berlin. In 1902, she joined the newly established women's class at the Kunstakademie Königsberg. Helene Neumann was also involved in social activities, serving as the chairwoman of the Königsberger Hausfrauenbund.
